Andrew Magnes, AIA is the Founding Principal of Andrew Magnes Architecture. Based in Brooklyn’s Red Hook neighborhood, the practice specializes in residential and institutional work, from interior renovations to ground-up buildings.
AMA designs custom-tailored buildings and spaces that meet the demands of the built environment. AMA is a process driven practice. Design commences with curiosity and questions, and solutions are born out of courage, collaboration, research and iteration. AMA values the challenges of detailing for performance while creating unique, contextual, responsive buildings and spaces.
Current and upcoming projects include a West Village row house, a low energy townhouse in Bushwick, an apartment in Brooklyn’s Ft. Greene and a full floor residence on Madison and 79th.
Prior to founding AMA, Andrew was most recently a Founding Partner of League Studio, after having worked independently on projects across New York, Pennsylvania, and Florida. He began his career as an architect at Leroy Street Studio, where he collaborated on high-end residences in New York City, Aspen, London, and The Hamptons, as well as the Loretta Howard art gallery in New York.
Andrew is a licensed Architect in the State of New York and is a member of the New York chapter of the American Institute of Architects. He graduated with honors from the University of Florida with a BFA in Drawing and was the recipient of the university’s Faculty Award from the School of Art and Art History. He attended graduate school at the New School University, Parsons School of Design where he received an M-Arch degree and the graduate award for academic performance. Alongside his Architectural Practice, Andrew has taught Architectural Design, Community Design, and Architectural Drawing at SUNY Orange in Middletown, New York City College of Technology in Brooklyn. He has been a guest critic at several institutions, including Drexel, Philadelphia University, Pratt, Parsons, NYIT, City Tech, Carlton, and Rensselear Polytechnic Institute.
